Talk about speaking truth to power! A former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell charged the Republican Party with racism after remarks in which John Sununu, a surrogate for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, suggested race was a factor in Powell’s endorsement of President Obama.

Retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a Republican, condemned the former New Hampshire governor’s comments while also slamming his own party during an interview with Ed Schultz on MSNBC on Friday night.

“My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people—not all of them, but most of them—who are still basing their positions on race,” Wilkerson said. “Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.”

and O’Brien calling Sununu down…

Paul Krugman spoke of racism in his book Conscience of a Liberal several times.  It is the root of economic and income inequality in this country.

TeaTardedRepubliCANTS are racist, plain & simple. AND if you are a GOPretender and don’t speak out against the party’s racism, YOU ARE ALSO A RACIST.

Congratulations and a huge thank you to Col. Wilkerson for calling out the Republicans, and John Sununu for exactly the racists that the party harbors and who Sununu is. His comments were despicable, and milquetoast Mitt’s lack of response proves the point. Thanks for sharing this post.

I am so glad a credible Republican has called out what people have been saying all along: racism is alive and well in this nation. Until we address this disease on this nation, hate and bigotry will continue to erode the country. The world looks on in disgust. Every American should too.

God I love Soledad! Facts are facts and she holds them up to the GOP no matter what they say. They just come across as fools when they try to deny them when they are right there for everyone to see.
